What is OnLive?

OnLive is a revolutionary gaming platform, set to disrupt and forever change the way we think of PC, Mac and Console gaming. Unlike like any other system before it, the users hardware doesn’t do the work. Do to amazing breakthroughs in “cloud computing” ultra-effective streaming compression was born. This allows servers to do all the work of running the game.

Now don’t get me wrong your computers speed still matters, but its a completely different type of “speed” then before. Your Internet connection, thats right, your Internet connection speed determines how well games will play. All the information sent your PC, Mac, or TV console is streamed. The OnLive service uses the highest of high-end servers to do the work. So you need not worry about lag issues.

Sound too good to be true? Yea, that was exactly what I first thought. Turns out that over 15 of the biggest game publishers are backing this thing. Publishers like: EA, Activision, THQ, Codemasters, Ubisoft, Atari, Warner Bros., Take-Two, Epic Games. Oh yea, 2D Boy the creators of World of Goo are on board too.

When Does OnLive Come Out?
Right now it is in closed-beta. Which just means a select few are testing the product. Making sure that everything runs smoothing for you and me, the average consumer. OnLive’s own promo video states that the OnLive service is set to be released “Winter of 2009″. So, expect this thing to be on the shelves for the Holiday season.
