Tiger Woods PGA 2009 OnLive Port - No Thanks

For the love of god! I hope there is a golf game on the OnLive service. One that doesn’t make me delighted at the thought of a child with Progeria getting stuck by semi in front of my window. Tiger Woods PGA 2009 for the Wii has to be one of the hardest, buggiest games I have ever played. If you skip through things too quickly, out of play shots will be in play. Say you hit in the water and you want to play as quickly as possible, well, you’re fucked. Because can’t hit the damn thing more than 20 yards from the bottom of the pond. Stuck in a loop that took 40 minutes to get to. Seriously, if EA decides to port this game to the OnLive service please fix the bugs.

What Games do You Want on OnLive?

Call of Duty OnLive
No, it hasn’t been announced yet, but a man can dream.

Much discussion has been made over the 16 OnLive launch games. Personally, I would love to see Call of Duty as a launch game, but I don’t think it will happen. There is too much risk in it for Activision Blizzard. Plus, I have the feeling that they might be backing GaiKai. Dave Perry, the CEO of Acclaim Entertainment, said that GaiKai can run World of Warcraft. O.K., that might be stretch but so be it. So, here is a question for you:

What would you like see as an OnLive launch game?

OnLive Game Publishers

A look into the future possibility of OnLive launch games.

It has been suspected that the publishers onboard for the launch OnLive will port all of their game to the service. Though, it really is not that simple. Porting games is a legal minefield. Publishers only own rights to games for what is agreed to under contract with the third parties that produce them. Since the OnLive service is a new platform there really is no way that any of that could have been written in to the contract. Unless they were left open-ended, which would never happen, ever. Because it would leave the publisher reliable, and just begs for a lawsuit to be called of something stupid.

Even if they manage to get through the legal and corporate beaucracy in a timely matter they have another issue,  investors. If they aren’t convinced that they can accurately hedge their bets; there is no way that porting games to OnLive would take place. From an investors stand point, how reckless would it be to trust a virtually unknown company based on what is public knowledge right now? Given the situation that we are in I don’t exactly see that as an option. Sure, there are some that would bite(like me), but I’m willing to bet the majority of potential investors are holding back.

There is a slight chance we will see more OnLive launch games announced, but I wouldn’t count on it. The benchmark for the effectiveness of OnLive gaming will come when the open-beta closes. Maybe then we will see more launch titles released, and even then we probably wont hear about them for a couple of months.

Yes, it can play Crysis.

Along with the launch of OnLive.com we got a list of launch games. Oh but of course, a new platform a new Prince of Persia game. Like any one didn’t see that one coming. Though, I’m kind of surprised that there is no Call of Duty as a launch title. Maybe Vivendi, the majority stock holder of Activision Blizzard, is a little bit uneasy about the new platform.
